The company, founded over 50 years ago and credited with popularizing smoothies, recently announced a new store design focused on creating a more welcoming atmosphere and plans to expand its food offerings with flatbreads.
Smoothie King’s growth is fueled by increasing consumer awareness of health and nutrition, particularly a focus on protein and fiber. The chain completed its "Clean Blends Initiative" in 2019, removing artificial ingredients and GMOs, and boasts a more stringent "no-no" list than competitors like Panera and Chipotle.
In 2025, Smoothie King recorded revenue of $66.16 million, a 4% increase year-over-year, though net income dipped slightly to $14.84 million. The company operates over 1,200 locations, with over 96% being franchises. Franchisees have already committed to opening over 200 new locations in the coming years, with approximately 90 new stores planned for this year alone.
