Wall Street firm KeyBanc has issued a bullish call on global lodging giant Airbnb (ABNB), upgrading the stock to an "overweight" rating from its previous "sector weight." The upgrade comes with a robust price target of $191 per share, suggesting a potential upside of 19% from Thursday's closing price.
Analyst Sergio Segura outlined KeyBanc's optimistic thesis in a note to clients, pinpointing three core drivers for Airbnb's anticipated growth. Firstly, Segura highlighted that Airbnb's fundamental growth appears increasingly sustainable and is propelled by innovative product development. Secondly, the analyst identified traditional hotels as an emerging and credible second engine for the company's expansion. Lastly, KeyBanc believes Airbnb is strategically positioned to be a significant beneficiary of advancements in artificial intelligence.
The valuation of Airbnb's shares further strengthens KeyBanc's "buy" recommendation. "With shares trading below their three-year median valuation multiple and at a discount to traditional lodging peers despite stronger growth and operating momentum, we view the current risk/reward as compelling," Segura stated. Specifically, Airbnb recently closed trading at 14.1 times its 2028 estimated enterprise-value-to-EBITDA ratio, a figure well below its three-year historical next 12 months median of 16.7 times enterprise-value-to-EBITDA.
Segura emphasized that Airbnb is uniquely poised to leverage the ongoing AI boom. The company's "differentiated inventory, globally recognized brand, and significant direct traffic mix" provide a strong foundation to capitalize on AI-driven innovations to further fuel its growth trajectory.
KeyBanc's positive outlook largely aligns with broader Wall Street sentiment. According to LSEG data, out of 45 analysts covering Airbnb, a substantial majority of 27 analysts currently hold a "buy" or "strong buy" rating on the stock, while 17 recommend holding. This consensus reflects a general optimism for the company, whose shares have already climbed an impressive 18% year-to-date.
