IMAX Stock Soars as Morgan Stanley Declares It a 'Must-Have' for Theaters
New York, NY - IMAX Corporation's dominance in the cinematic experience is poised for further growth, according to a bullish new assessment from Morgan Stanley. Analyst Daniel Duran highlighted IMAX's increasing centrality to the modern moviegoing experience. "IMAX is becoming increasingly central to the moviegoing experience, with a growing network and broader film slate reinforcing a flywheel of more screens, more releases and higher box office revenue, driving strong earnings and [free cash flow] growth," Duran stated in a research note.
The company, known for its cutting-edge film cameras and expansive, curved screens designed to maximize viewer immersion, is projected by Morgan Stanley to see its box office revenue climb from $1.5 billion in 2026 to an impressive $1.7 billion by 2028. A significant catalyst for this optimism appears to be the phenomenal success of "The Odyssey," which was entirely filmed using IMAX cameras and became the fastest film to surpass $200 million in IMAX box office sales.
"'The Odyssey' was a wake-up call for studios/theaters, highlighting the value of IMAX," Duran noted. "Studios/theaters lean into premium offerings as consumer demand for premium experiences continues. IMAX's brand/tech positions it well to monetize on this trend."
This positive outlook aligns with the broader Wall Street consensus, with 12 out of 14 analysts currently recommending a buy or strong buy for IMAX shares. The stock has already rewarded investors, climbing over 21% in the past three months.
The analysis comes amid a broader discussion of market trends, including insights from other financial institutions on various stocks.
