Trump's June Portfolio Shake-Up: Big Bets on Berkshire Hathaway, Sales of Meta and Tech ETFs
Washington D.C. - President Donald Trump executed a significant reshuffling of his investment portfolio in June, engaging in over 1,000 financial transactions. The moves indicate a broad strategic adjustment across stocks, bonds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), with notable sales of Meta shares and purchases of Berkshire Hathaway.
The disclosures, filed on August 22, reveal transactions totaling between $78.1 million and $263.1 million. While purchases exceeded $49 million, sales amounted to at least $28.5 million. The filing provides a glimpse into Trump's investment activities, though specific holdings and exact amounts remain opaque, as only ranges are provided.
Key Transactions in June
One of the largest single transactions was the sale of between $5 million and $25 million in Vanguard Dividend Appreciation Index Fund ETF shares on June 22. On the same day, Trump invested between $1 million and $5 million each in Fidelity National Information Services and Home Depot, with additional, smaller transactions in these stocks also occurring throughout the month.
A significant move occurred on June 18, when Trump sold shares valued between $1 million and $5 million in both Meta and Motorola. In a parallel action, he purchased the same range of shares in Berkshire Hathaway, Cintas, Visa, and Mastercard. These trades followed a market sell-off driven by concerns over monetary policy and concluded just before the market rebounded on June 18.
Diversification into ETFs and Bonds
The portfolio adjustments also included several ETF purchases, such as the iShares U.S. Treasury Bond ETF, State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF, and the iShares GSCI Commodity Dynamic Roll Strategy ETF. Additionally, Trump acquired various municipal bonds.
Conversely, sales from ETFs included the Vanguard Short-Term Bond Index Fund ETF, State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF, and the Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF. These ETF transactions, along with other stock and bond trades, typically ranged from $1 million to $5 million, with 25 such transactions recorded. The majority of the over 1,000 transactions were valued at $1 million or less.
Defense and Tech Sector Activity
The president also engaged with defense contractor Palantir Technologies, making a small purchase early in June, followed by a sale mid-month and another larger sale on June 18. A subsequent small purchase of Palantir occurred on June 23.
Transactions involving other defense companies, RTX and Northrop Grumman, were also disclosed. Trump bought RTX shares on June 12 and sold Northrop Grumman on the same day, later buying and selling Northrop Grumman again in late June.
In the volatile cryptocurrency market, Trump bought and sold Coinbase shares amidst Bitcoin's decline. He offloaded shares worth between $116,003 and $315,000 between June 12 and June 23, before repurchasing shares valued between $50,001 and $100,000 on June 24.
The White House has previously stated that the President's assets are managed in a trust overseen by his children, asserting that no conflicts of interest exist.
