Despite U.S. President Trump’s claims of Iran’s imminent economic collapse, a former Central Bank of Iran adviser, Mehrdad Sepahvand, suggests a more complex reality. While acknowledging significant economic strain due to sanctions and the UAE’s severed trade ties, Sepahvand stated that the economy is deteriorating rather than unraveling.

The situation is particularly challenging for low-income Iranians and the youth, who face rising prices and job losses. Sepahvand warned that the UAE’s decision could deepen Iran’s economic contraction to approximately 5% this year, potentially empowering hardliners within the regime.
