Eli Lilly announced it will seek approval for its next-generation obesity drug, retatrutide, in Q1 2027, following positive results from two new late-stage trials. The drug has shown significant weight loss and improved blood sugar control in adults with obesity and related conditions like Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Lilly cited the need for more manufacturing and quality control data as the reason for the adjusted timeline.

Retatrutide, dubbed the “triple G” drug for its multi-hormonal action (GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon), has demonstrated superior efficacy compared to current treatments. Positive outcomes from five late-stage trials position it as a key player in Lilly’s growing obesity portfolio and a significant contender in the booming weight-loss drug market.
