Nvidia CEO's Signature Leather Jacket Fetches Nearly $1 Million at Sotheby's Auction
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's iconic leather jacket, a staple of his public appearances for nearly two decades, has commanded an astonishing price at a Sotheby's auction, selling for $960,000. This vastly exceeded the initial pre-sale estimate of $40,000 to $60,000, highlighting the jacket's status as a coveted collectible.

Jensen Huang, the driving force behind Nvidia, is almost as famous for his consistent sartorial choice – a black Tom Ford leather jacket – as he is for leading the company's charge in artificial intelligence. This particular jacket, worn by Huang in 2023 at an event in Taipei, Taiwan, garnered immense interest, attracting 65 bids from 45 different collectors.
The final hammer price of $960,000 is a staggering 16 times higher than the jacket's estimated value and significantly dwarfs its retail price of under $10,000. Sotheby's described the response to the auction as exceeding expectations, underscoring a growing trend of collectors seeking unique memorabilia from the booming AI era.
Proceeds from the sale are designated for the Edge Institute, a nonprofit organization focused on fostering innovation through fellowships, grants, and residencies. This philanthropic aspect adds another layer of value to the already remarkable transaction.
Huang himself has often humorously addressed his distinctive "uniform," attributing his style to his wife and daughter and self-identifying as "the guy in the leather jacket." This personal touch has resonated, even leading to a notable "jersey swap" with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in 2024, where Zuckerberg famously remarked that a used garment holds more value.
