TAIWAN - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, announced a stellar second-quarter performance, reporting a remarkable 77.4% year-on-year profit increase. This surge significantly surpassed analyst estimates, marking yet another record-breaking quarter for the company amidst booming demand for high-end chips, particularly those powering artificial intelligence.

Financial Highlights and Projections
TSMC's second-quarter revenue reached NT$1.27 trillion (approximately $39.45 billion), exceeding the LSEG SmartEstimates consensus of NT$1.264 trillion. Net income soared to NT$706.56 billion, comfortably beating the expected NT$632.64 billion.
Looking ahead to the third quarter, TSMC forecast revenue in the range of $44.6 billion to $45.8 billion, with an anticipated operating profit margin between 56% and 58%. This optimistic outlook is underpinned by strong demand in key sectors.
AI and Advanced Manufacturing Driving Growth
"AI related demand continues to be extremely robust," stated TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei. The company's advanced technologies, including 7-nanometer and below, constituted a significant 77% of total wafer revenue. Specifically, the 5-nanometer process accounted for 33% of the quarter's revenue, closely followed by the 3-nanometer process at 30%.
In a significant move to bolster capacity and meet escalating customer needs, TSMC announced an additional $100 billion investment in its Arizona facility, bringing the total investment in the state to $265 billion. This expansion is aimed at establishing multiple semiconductor fabrication plants for two-nanometer mass production technologies and advanced packaging, catering to the multi-year demand from leading U.S. customers.

Market Impact and Future Outlook
TSMC, a critical supplier for tech giants such as Nvidia, Apple, and Broadcom, has seen its stock price rise by over 58% year-to-date. The company's strong performance is a testament to its pivotal role in the global semiconductor supply chain, particularly in the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence.
For 2026, TSMC projects high-performance computing to represent 66% of its revenue, followed by smartphones at 22% and the Internet of Things at 5%.
