Train services across Germany gradually resumed early on Wednesday after a nationwide disruption of the digital railway radio system, known as GSM-R, was successfully resolved. The outage had caused significant delays and cancellations, impacting thousands of travelers.

Deutsche Bahn, the German railway operator, confirmed that its IT experts worked tirelessly through the night to fix the communication breakdown between train drivers and traffic control centers. "Our IT experts have been working non-stop to resolve the issue - and have succeeded," a spokesperson stated, announcing the gradual restoration of services.

The incident had led Deutsche Bahn to halt all train operations earlier due to the failure of the Global System for Mobile Communications for Railways (GSM-R). While services are now returning to normal, the operator cautioned that some limitations might persist. Passengers affected by the disruption are being offered taxi and hotel vouchers, along with alternative transportation options where feasible.

The specific cause of the IT failure has not yet been disclosed by Deutsche Bahn.
