Northern Star Resources, Australia’s largest gold miner, saw its shares climb after it firmly rejected a $27.15 billion takeover proposal from South Africa’s Gold Fields. The company’s board unanimously deemed the offer, initially valued at A$38.7 billion, as materially undervaluing its assets and being ‘highly opportunistic’. Following the announcement, Northern Star’s stock closed 6.15% higher, paring some intraday gains.
