During its annual flagship Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, Alibaba Cloud introduced the Zhenwu V900, a new-generation AI chip boasting three times the performance of its predecessor, the Zhenwu M890, which was released in May. The company also revealed a comprehensive roadmap for Alibaba Cloud, aiming to increase its global data center capacity to over 20 gigawatts by 2032. This expansion encompasses advancements in chips, cloud infrastructure, and AI models, positioning Alibaba at the forefront of the AI revolution.

Competitors are also making substantial moves in the AI space. Nvidia recently announced plans to support up to 2 gigawatts of AI infrastructure in Australia by 2027 through partnerships. Meanwhile, Meta is constructing its first major data center in Canada, a 1-gigawatt facility in Alberta, with an estimated cost of $9 billion and a completion time of up to three years. Last week, Alibaba's domestic rival, Huawei, unveiled new AI infrastructure designed to scale to one million processors.
Alibaba's Zhenwu V900 AI chip is slated for mass production and commercial release in the first quarter of 2027. The company's current Zhenwu chips are already utilized by over 650 clients across diverse sectors, including automotive, finance, energy, and manufacturing.
In addition to hardware advancements, Alibaba is also pushing forward with its AI models. Its next-generation Qwen 4 model is currently undergoing training, with plans for future iterations, the Qwen 4.5 and Qwen 5 series, already in development.
