Her four-year journey culminates in a guaranteed job at SK Hynix upon graduation, provided she meets academic conditions.
Similarly, Kim Tae-rin, a third-year student at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), is enrolled in the Department of Intelligent Software, a five-year integrated bachelor's and master's program in AI software developed with Samsung Electronics. While her path also significantly boosts employment prospects, she must successfully navigate a separate, though described as "minimum procedure," Samsung hiring process.
These alliances extend across the nation's top academic institutions. SK Hynix boasts partnerships with Korea University and Hanyang University, while Samsung Electronics collaborates with prestigious institutes such as Yonsei University, the Korea Advanced Institute for Science and Technology (KAIST), and the Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology.
Both Jung and Kim highlighted the dual advantages of these programs: robust financial support and the coveted certainty of a secure job in a competitive industry. Specifically, applications to Samsung Electronics' contract departments climbed by 6.5% for the 2026 academic year, while SK Hynix-linked programs saw a 12.7% increase. Overall, Samsung courses faced an intense 13.44 applicants for every available spot, with SK Hynix programs drawing 9.14 applicants per seat. Sogang University's Jung attests to this escalating competition, noting higher admission cutoffs for the 2026 academic year compared to 2025.
Scholarships and Strategic Obligations
Financial assistance is a cornerstone of these programs. At Sogang University, every admitted student in the SK Hynix-linked program automatically receives an SK Hynix scholarship, covering tuition and providing a monthly study incentive allowance. Additional scholarships are available for academic excellence and project awards. However, these benefits come with clear obligations: students must maintain a GPA of 2.3 for scholarship retention and 2.7 for guaranteed employment. Should a student withdraw, they are required to repay the financial support received. SK Hynix further stipulates that graduates must commit to working for the company for a period equivalent to the duration of their financial aid, entering at the same rank and receiving identical benefits as other entry-level recruits.
Samsung's program at SKKU offers tuition coverage for the first three years, contingent on meeting minimum grade requirements. Students can then enter a separate Samsung hiring process in the latter half of their third year. Success in this "minimum procedure" confirms employment and ensures continued full tuition support for the remainder of the five-year program. The first cohort from this program is yet to graduate, and details regarding outcomes for students who do not clear the Samsung employment process remain unclear.
Bridging the Gap: Company and Classroom

While formal internships are not yet universally integrated, SK Hynix is considering implementing them in the future. Though company staff don't formally teach courses at Sogang, they regularly conduct seminars and special lectures.
