Jeff Bezos is selling approximately $4.1 billion worth of Amazon shares, with plans to offload 15 million shares. This move comes as Amazon’s stock has reached a new all-time high, boosted by strong quarterly earnings and growth in its cloud computing division.
The sales were executed under a pre-arranged trading plan, and this divestment by the company’s founder follows a period of significant stock appreciation for Amazon, highlighting the company’s continued success and investor confidence in its AI strategies.
Bezos Sells $4 Billion in Amazon Shares as Stock Hits Record High
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has filed plans to sell approximately 15 million shares of the e-commerce giant, valued at around $4.1 billion. This significant divestment comes on the heels of Amazon's stock reaching an all-time high, fueled by stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings and robust growth in its cloud computing business.

The filing, made public on Tuesday, revealed that Bezos intends to sell the shares through a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan that was adopted on November 14, 2025. These sales reportedly took place on Monday via Morgan Stanley. The shares in question were acquired as founder stock in 1994. This move follows a period of strong performance for Amazon, with shares rallying approximately 20% year-to-date, outpacing the broader S&P 500's 12% gain.
Amazon's recent surge is attributed to its impressive second-quarter earnings report, which highlighted accelerated demand driven by the company's investments in artificial intelligence, particularly within its cloud services division. Despite the news of Bezos's sale, the stock had already experienced a slight dip of over 2% on Tuesday following the filing.
Amazon Year-to-Date Performance
In recent years, Bezos has engaged in regular stock sales, typically utilizing prearranged trading plans, while maintaining his position as one of Amazon's largest shareholders. The filing also noted that Bezos donated 220,200 shares to nonprofit organizations in May, some of which may have been sold in the preceding three months.
