Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) shares climbed more than 12% after the company reported a strong second quarter, surpassing analysts' earnings and revenue forecasts. The data analytics and AI software firm announced that its U.S. commercial revenue more than doubled compared to the previous year.
The company reported adjusted earnings per share of 41 cents, exceeding the 35 cents expected by LSEG estimates. Revenue for the quarter reached $1.94 billion, significantly higher than the anticipated $1.80 billion.
Overall revenue experienced a substantial 93% year-over-year increase, growing from approximately $1 billion in the same quarter last year. Palantir posted a net income of $1.07 billion, or 41 cents per share, a notable rise from the $329 million, or 13 cents per share, recorded in the prior year's quarter.
"Forget consensus," stated CEO Alex Karp in an interview with CNBC. "To my knowledge, no businesses at our scale has even grown half this much."
While Palantir is well-known for its work with the U.S. government and military, its commercial sector has seen remarkable acceleration. U.S. government revenue also saw robust growth, increasing by 90% year-over-year to $809 million.
The standout performer was the U.S. commercial segment, which surged by an impressive 149% from the previous year, reaching $764 million. This growth represents a 380% increase since 2024 when considering compounding effects. Looking ahead, Palantir raised its 2026 U.S. commercial revenue guidance to over $3.42 billion, up from its previous forecast of $3.22 billion.
The company also highlighted that its remaining U.S. commercial deal value has more than doubled year-over-year, now standing at $6.24 billion.
Earlier this year, Palantir's stock had experienced a 29% decline amidst growing concerns about the sustainability of the artificial intelligence software sector and potential slowdowns in growth. However, the company has now revised its full-year revenue guidance upward, projecting it to be between $8.15 billion and $8.16 billion, an increase from the previous guidance of $7.65 billion to $7.66 billion.
CEO Alex Karp expressed optimism about the company's trajectory, telling CNBC that the current growth trend "looks like this is going to go on for at least another 18 months."

Karp remains a strong advocate for open-weight AI models, emphasizing the need for competition and reduced reliance on proprietary token models. He recently joined other tech leaders in urging the government not to impede the development of open-weight models, stating, "We need competition if we're going to keep model companies honest, which is the same thing as enterprise software." He believes that American innovation thrives on competition and that open models must match or surpass their international counterparts.
