Australian gold mining giant Northern Star Resources saw its shares climb after it firmly rejected a $27 billion takeover bid from South Africa’s Gold Fields. The board deemed the offer ‘highly opportunistic’ and a material undervaluation of the company, which boasts one of the world’s premier gold portfolios.<\/p>\n

The proposal, initially valuing Northern Star at A$38.7 billion with a 22% premium, was dismissed unanimously, leading to Northern Star’s stock closing 6.15% higher on Monday.<\/p>\n
