Shares of Chinese optical transceivers manufacturer Zhongji Innolight experienced a significant surge, climbing as much as 8% on Monday before settling with some gains, following the company's securing of approval on Friday for a substantial Hong Kong listing. This initial public offering (IPO), potentially valued at up to $8 billion, is poised to be one of the city's largest in several years.
Bloomberg reports that the firm has begun discussions to gauge interest from potential investors. It's noted that specific details, including the final offering size and precise timing, are still subject to change as deliberations continue. This landmark deal is anticipated to eclipse Luxshare Precision's $3.1 billion share sale earlier this month, positioning Zhongji Innolight's listing as the biggest in Hong Kong for the current year, according to LSEG data.

Zhongji Innolight did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the listing. Hong Kong's financial markets are currently witnessing a notable influx of listings from Chinese enterprises, particularly those operating within the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence supply chain. This trend is contributing to a robust IPO landscape.
A recent report by KPMG highlights Hong Kong's impressive performance in the first half of the year, with HK$209.9 billion raised across 85 new listings. This marks the strongest first-half result for the city's IPO market in five years. KPMG further forecasts a vibrant future for the market, citing a "record-breaking pipeline of over 500 active IPO applicants (including confidential filings)" and emphasizing that technology companies are expected to remain a primary engine for growth in Hong Kong's IPO sector.
By the close of trading, Zhongji Innolight's shares were up 4.7%.
