President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that a peace deal with Iran is set to be signed on Sunday, with the Strait of Hormuz to be opened immediately afterward. This comes despite Iranian state media expressing caution about the timing of such an agreement.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier suggested a deal was imminent, with technical talks to follow. The reported agreement aims to secure regional peace and provide economic benefits to Iran.
President Donald Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that a peace deal aimed at ending the conflict with Iran is slated for signing on Sunday. He further stated that the critical Strait of Hormuz would be reopened for all traffic immediately following the agreement's execution.
In his Truth Social post, Trump declared, "The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL." He also indicated that the United States would collaborate with Iran to remove enriched uranium from the country at a future, unspecified date. "At the appropriate time, when all is calm, we will go in and get the Nuclear Dust, buried deep under the powerful sunken granite mountains," he elaborated. Trump expressed anticipation for future collaboration, stating, "We look forward to working with Iran, and the entire Middle East, long into the future."

However, this optimistic announcement contrasts with earlier reports from Iranian state media. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, was quoted as urging caution regarding the timeline for signing any deal. "We will have to wait and see about the exact date of the signing of the memorandum of understanding, although it will not be tomorrow," state media reported. "The possibility of this happening in the coming days cannot be ruled out. However, due to the hesitation of the other side, we must be cautious in making any comments about this process."
Trump's post also carried a thinly veiled warning: "Hopefully, this process will all work out quickly, easily, and smoothly. If it doesn't, we have the ultimate alternative, hopefully never to be used again!" The White House has not yet provided a comment regarding Trump's statements.
Earlier on Saturday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had suggested that the U.S. and Iran were nearing a peace deal, with a finalization expected within 24 hours and technical-level talks scheduled for the following week. Trump had shared Sharif's comments on his Truth Social account. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar also confirmed discussions about the agreement with Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, who reportedly welcomed the negotiations in their final stages and expressed hope for regional peace and stability.
A senior Trump administration official had indicated on Friday that there was not "100%" certainty regarding the agreement's signing. The reported terms of the deal include guarantees for "long-term peace in the region" in exchange for "significant" economic relief for Iran.
