Lucid Group, the luxury electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced a 6.7% decrease in its year-over-year vehicle deliveries for the third quarter, a move that reflects the company's strategic decision to temper production in response to a softening customer demand for EVs. This shift comes as the automaker, heavily backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, navigates an "operational reset" under its new CEO, Silvio Napoli.

From July through September, Lucid delivered 3,806 electric vehicles while producing 2,954 units. These figures contrast with 4,078 deliveries and 3,891 vehicles produced in the same quarter last year. While quarterly deliveries saw a dip, Lucid's total deliveries through the third quarter are up 3.4% year-over-year, and production has impressively climbed by 33% earlier this year as the company initially ramped up its manufacturing efforts.
The highest quarterly production for Lucid reached nearly 7,900 units in the fourth quarter of last year, followed by approximately 5,500 units in the first quarter of this year. However, the latest quarter marks a significant recalibration.
Following the delivery data, Lucid's shares closed up less than 1% on Monday at $4.17 and saw minimal change in extended trading. Despite this, the stock has experienced a more than 60% decline this year, highlighting the broader challenges faced by the EV sector.
This "operational reset," initiated under CEO Silvio Napoli, who took the helm in June, included cutting production at its Arizona plant from two shifts to one. A key component of this turnaround strategy is identifying and capitalizing on approximately $1.4 billion in cash flow improvement opportunities projected for this year.
These initiatives, first outlined during Lucid's second-quarter results in August, encompass an estimated $600 million to $800 million in vehicle inventory reductions, $500 million in capital expenditure optimizations, and $200 million in operating expense efficiencies.
Investors are now looking forward to Lucid's full third-quarter results, which are slated for release on November 9 after the market closes, for a deeper dive into the company's financial health and strategic direction.
