A recent wave of Ukrainian drone attacks has resulted in significant damage and casualties across Russia, with seven warehouse workers confirmed dead and dozens injured. Strikes targeted facilities of major online retailer Wildberries in the Tambov and Moscow regions, while an oil depot near Moscow also erupted in flames from falling drone debris. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Kyiv’s responsibility, stating the attacks hit logistics hubs vital for drone component supply and navigation equipment, as well as an oil facility.
Russia experienced a severe escalation of hostilities this Saturday as a series of Ukrainian drone attacks claimed the lives of seven warehouse workers and left dozens more injured. The strikes also triggered a substantial fire at an oil depot situated in the wider Moscow capital region, according to statements from regional governors.
Evgeniy Pervyshov, the Governor of the Tambov region, reported that 25 individuals sustained injuries when Ukrainian drones targeted a warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer. This incident occurred in Kotovsk, approximately 475 kilometers (295 miles) southeast of Moscow. "Seven people working the night shift died on the spot," Pervyshov conveyed via Telegram, adding that Russian defenses managed to shoot down 28 drones in the vicinity. He emphasized that the casualty count could have been far higher had all drones reached their intended targets.
In response to the assaults, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that Kyiv was responsible for hitting two crucial logistics facilities utilized by Russia for supplying components essential for drone manufacturing and navigation equipment. Zelenskyy further acknowledged a strike on an oil facility.
Meanwhile, in the Moscow region, Governor Andrei Vorobyov detailed that another Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, a city east of Moscow, was also struck, injuring 24 people. Tatyana Kim, co-founder and CEO of Wildberries, expressed her profound sorrow, describing the night as "terrible" for both Russia and her company, extending condolences to the victims' families.
The city of Noginsk, also within the Moscow region, saw a significant fire break out at an oil depot, attributed to falling drone debris, as stated by Vorobyov. While the extent of the damage to the facility was not specified, the governor confirmed two injuries in Noginsk and the precautionary evacuation of a nearby maternity hospital. These coordinated attacks underscore the intensifying nature of the conflict and Ukraine's capability to strike deep within Russian territory.
