Florida’s Palm Beach International Officially Renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, Code DJT Approved

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida – In a historic and unprecedented move, the airport serving West Palm Beach, Florida, has officially been renamed in honor of President Donald Trump. This marks the first instance a U.S. airport has been designated after a sitting American president. Effective Thursday, the facility formerly known as Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) will now operate under the new title: President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the renaming, which includes a significant overhaul of its official identifiers. The airport's FAA locational identifier is transitioning from PBI to the new code, DJT. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) code change is slated to take effect on August 18.

Major U.S. carriers, including United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, have already initiated the process of integrating the new DJT code into their booking platforms. While travelers will still be able to use the familiar PBI code to search for flights during this transitional phase, the eventual goal is a complete switch. The airport hosts more than a dozen airlines, including key domestic players like American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

This extensive rebranding effort was set in motion by legislation signed earlier this year by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, subsequently receiving final approval from the FAA. According to an FAQ published online by the airport, updates to all signage, branding elements, and public-facing materials will be rolled out in phases.

The total cost associated with the name change project is estimated at $5.5 million. The state of Florida has committed $2.75 million towards these expenses, with the remainder to be funded through the local Department of Airports’ operational budget and capital improvement program.

Addressing potential public sentiment, the airport stated in its FAQ, “While we recognize that the required name change may be received in different ways by our passengers, we're grateful for your continued support through this transition period. While some things may evolve over time, our core focus remains the same: providing a safe, reliable and welcoming airport experience.”

The airport’s close proximity to President Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, means it frequently serves as his point of arrival and departure. President Trump's son, Eric Trump, expressed his enthusiasm for the change, announcing via X (formerly Twitter) that Trump Force One—the moniker for the Trump Organization's private jet—would be the inaugural aircraft to land at the newly christened airport. He publicly shared his pride, stating, “As a son, and someone who flies out of this airport nearly every day, I will forever be proud to see the initials 'DJT' on my boarding pass.”
