At least five individuals lost their lives in a series of Israeli air and drone strikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday. The ceasefire, which was reportedly agreed upon by Israel and Hezbollah on Friday, followed a significant escalation in hostilities. A U.S. official, along with a senior Israeli official and two Hezbollah sources, confirmed the agreement to Reuters, noting that the truce was scheduled to take effect at 4 p.m. (1300 GMT) on Friday.

Compounding the regional instability, these latest Israeli actions in Lebanon occurred despite a separate, broader diplomatic effort. Just days prior, President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday. This agreement was aimed at developing a permanent peace deal to end the months-long conflict between the United States and Iran.
