The U.S. military confirmed the completion of strikes targeting Iranian military installations in proximity to the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command stated that these actions were a defensive and measured response to what they termed Iranian aggression.
President Donald Trump had previously announced that Iran was responsible for shooting down a U.S. helicopter conducting patrols near the Strait of Hormuz, indicating that the U.S. would retaliate. "The two pilots involved in the attack are safe and uninjured," Trump posted on Truth Social. "Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack."
Analysts at Rystad Energy highlighted the severity of the situation, noting that the shutdown of 11.8 million barrels per day of production across six Gulf producers represents the most significant oil supply disruption in modern history. The consultancy estimates that cumulative production losses have already reached 1 billion barrels and warned that continued conflict could lead to the loss of an additional 350 million barrels of output each month.
